I'm Changing My Mind About Several Yarns

 Embracing Change

I used to be all about getting the most yarn for my money, but lately, my preferences have shifted as my projects have evolved. In the past, I made a lot of blankets, but now I’m more into making wearables for myself. That change has led me to be much more mindful about the types of yarn I buy, the colors I choose, and the fiber content that best suits my projects.

One of the biggest realizations I’ve had is that I love finer weight yarns more than I ever expected. I used to think lighter weight yarns were a hassle, but after working with them, I’ve come to appreciate their drape, softness, and versatility.

Knit Picks and WeCrochet Comfy Fingering Weight – Color: Cabin

This beautiful brown yarn is 75% Pima cotton and 25% acrylic. It’s machine washable (though I’m always cautious about tumble drying). I absolutely loved working with this yarn! I used two skeins for a project and still have two left, which I’ll use for another light and airy wearable. The drape and softness of this yarn make it an absolute delight. Get it Here.

Knit Picks Palette Twist – Color: Briar

This fingering weight yarn is 100% Peruvian Highland wool and comes in 50g balls. It’s a bit woolier in texture but still incredibly soft. I got eight balls of this yarn on clearance for $22, making it a steal! I don’t have a project in mind yet, but I’m thinking of a large wrap or shawl. The twisted color effect adds a unique texture that I haven’t worked with before, and I’m excited to experiment with it. Get it HERE.

Knit Picks Stroll Tweed Mini Pack – Harvest Festival Colorway

This fingering weight pack includes five different colors, each with a tweed effect. It’s 65% fine Superwash Merino wool and 25% nylon, making it perfect for delicate yet durable projects. I just finished a project with it that I’ll be sharing in a video you can watch HERE—it’s a quick, satisfying make that you can complete in just a couple of nights! Get the yarn HERE.

A New Obsession: Handspun Yarn

One of the most exciting additions to my stash is a stunning handspun yarn from Sweet Pea Cyd's Inspirations. This 100% wool yarn in sport or DK weight is incredibly soft and beautifully variegated. You can watch her create this yarn HERE. It has inspired me to explore spinning my own yarn—a craft I never thought I’d be interested in! I’ve already started looking into where I can get quality roving and the process of learning to spin. Who knows? This might be the beginning of a whole new crafting adventure for me!

Final Thoughts

My yarn preferences have evolved over time, and I’m embracing the change. I love the idea of working with finer weights, exploring different fiber blends, and even diving into the world of handspun yarn. If you’re a fellow yarn enthusiast, I encourage you to stay open to new experiences—you might just find a new favorite like I did!

How I Modified A Hexagon Cardi for Mid & Plus Size

Hexagon Cardigan Modifications Hey yarn lovers! If you're a midsize or plus-size crocheter looking for ways to customize your hexagon cardigan for a more flattering and comfortable fit, I’ve got some great tips for you. I recently finished my second hexagon cardi and made a few modifications that helped me feel more confident wearing it. Here’s what I learned! The Inspiration Behind My Second Hexagon Cardi A while back, I made a basic hexagon cardigan using Red Heart Super Saver yarn. While I loved the pattern and even won a blue ribbon at my county fair, I wasn’t sure I would actually wear it. It felt a bit too boxy and oversized for my liking. This time, I decided to use Herrschners Witches Brew yarn for a fun Halloween-inspired version. Get the yarn HERE . Since I wanted to ensure I would love wearing it, I made a few tweaks to improve the fit and feel. Key Modifications for a Better Fit 1. Adjusting the Shoulder Fit Instead of making the panels overly large, I measured my sho...

New to Hobby Lobby? Here’s What You Need to Know About Shopping for Yarn

If you're new to shopping for yarn at Hobby Lobby, let me help you avoid some rookie mistakes. I’ve learned a lot over the years, and today I’m breaking it all down so you can shop like a seasoned pro, especially when those big clearance sales roll around! Start with the Weekly Sale Schedule First things first: Hobby Lobby runs on a weekly rotating sale schedule . That means every week, different departments go on sale. The yarn section, is it's own department. When it’s that department’s turn, all the yarn will be 30% off. Here’s the catch: that sale only lasts a week, and the schedule rotates every other week. So if you’re walking into the store when yarn isn’t on sale, it has switched to a fabric sale week. I advise checking online before shopping and planning accordingly.  Hobby Lobby’s Yarn Brands Hobby Lobby carries a few big-name brands, like Lion Brand, but the real stars of the show are their private label yarns. These are exclusive to Hobby Lobby and in...
