Honest First Impressions From a Crocheter
Katia Yarn recently sent me a PR box featuring three of their yarns, and while I’d heard of Katia before, this was my first time actually working with their yarns. As always, gifted yarn or not, I like to take my time, crochet samples, and really get a feel for how a yarn behaves before sharing my thoughts.
In this post, I’m doing a deep dive into all three Katia yarns I tested, how they felt on my hook, what kinds of projects I think they’re best suited for, and who might enjoy them most. I even experimented with holding two yarns together, which ended up being one of my favorite parts of this experience.
Let’s take a closer look.
Merino 100 by Katia
Soft, washable wool made with sensitive skin in mind
Shop Merino 100 HERE! Colors: 500, 501, 502, 65
Merino 100 is a DK-weight, 100% superwash Merino wool, and it’s very clearly designed for comfort. This is one of those yarns that feels soft immediately...no “scratch test” anxiety here.
Fiber Content
100% Superwash Merino Wool
The fibers are processed to remain thin, soft, and less irritating, making this a great option for people who are sensitive to traditional wool.

My Experience With Merino 100
On its own, Merino 100 is smooth, flexible, and easy to crochet with. It's exactly what I want in a luxury "workhorse" garment yarn. Where it really shined for me, though, was when paired with Ingenua.
Holding these two yarns together created a fabric that was:
Soft and cozy
Light but warm
Visually rich without being heavy
This pairing would be gorgeous for sweaters, cardigans, or elevated accessories where you want both structure and softness.

My Experience With Ingenua
I want to be very clear here: I did not crochet a swatch of Ingenua by itself. Instead, I paired it with Merino 100 by Katia, holding the two yarns together and I absolutely loved the result.
Used this way, Ingenua adds a beautiful halo and softness without overwhelming the project. It feels luxurious but still wearable, and I can see this combination working beautifully for pullovers, cardigans, scarves, and cowls.
On its own, Ingenua will create a lightweight, see-through fabric, which is something to keep in mind when planning garments.
Care & Recommendations
Hand wash or delicate cycle at 30ºC
Lay flat to dry
Do not tumble dry
According to the Katia website, a basic long-sleeve pullover (Size 42) requires approximately 5 balls, though yardage will vary depending on gauge and whether it’s held double.

Because it’s machine washable and gentle, Katia recommends this yarn for baby garments, but it’s just as suitable for lightweight adult wear. I loved the drape it created, so I'm leaning towards a shawl!
