Deep Dive into Katia Yarns

Honest First Impressions From a Crocheter

Katia Yarn recently sent me a PR box featuring three of their yarns, and while I’d heard of Katia before, this was my first time actually working with their yarns. As always, gifted yarn or not, I like to take my time, crochet samples, and really get a feel for how a yarn behaves before sharing my thoughts.

In this post, I’m doing a deep dive into all three Katia yarns I tested, how they felt on my hook, what kinds of projects I think they’re best suited for, and who might enjoy them most. I even experimented with holding two yarns together, which ended up being one of my favorite parts of this experience.

Let’s take a closer look.

Merino 100 by Katia

Soft, washable wool made with sensitive skin in mind

Shop Merino 100 HERE Colors: 500, 501, 502, 65

Merino 100 is a DK-weight, 100% superwash Merino wool, and it’s very clearly designed for comfort. This is one of those yarns that feels soft immediately...no “scratch test” anxiety here.

Fiber Content

  • 100% Superwash Merino Wool

The fibers are processed to remain thin, soft, and less irritating, making this a great option for people who are sensitive to traditional wool.

Yarn Details

  • Weight: 50g

  • Length: 102 meters / 111 yards

  • Crochet Hook: 4mm (US G-6)

  • Knitting Needles: 4–4.5mm (US 6–7)

  • Season: Autumn – Winter

My Experience With Merino 100

On its own, Merino 100 is smooth, flexible, and easy to crochet with. It's exactly what I want in a luxury "workhorse" garment yarn. Where it really shined for me, though, was when paired with Ingenua.

Holding these two yarns together created a fabric that was:

  • Soft and cozy

  • Light but warm

  • Visually rich without being heavy

This pairing would be gorgeous for sweaters, cardigans, or elevated accessories where you want both structure and softness.

Read more about Ingenua below!

Care & Recommendations

  • Machine wash delicate or hand wash at 30ºC

  • Can be tumble dried on medium or laid flat to dry

According to the Katia website, a basic long-sleeve pullover (Size 42) requires approximately 11 balls.

Ingenua by Katia Yarns

A soft, fluffy fashion yarn with serious halo

Shop Ingenua HEREColors: 35, 43, 73, 79, 81

Ingenua by Katia is a lightweight, airy yarn with a soft, fuzzy halo that instantly gives projects a romantic, elevated look. This yarn is designed to add texture and depth without adding bulk, which makes it especially appealing for garments and accessories where drape matters.

Fiber Content

  • 78% Mohair

  • 13% Polyamide

  • 9% Merino

Despite its light and airy feel, Ingenua provides surprising warmth thanks to its high natural fiber content.

Yarn Details

  • Weight: 50g

  • Length: 140 meters / 153 yards

  • Crochet Hook: 5mm (US H-8)

  • Knitting Needles: 5–5.5mm (US 8–9)

  • Season: Autumn – Winter

My Experience With Ingenua

I want to be very clear here: I did not crochet a swatch of Ingenua by itself. Instead, I paired it with Merino 100 by Katia, holding the two yarns together and I absolutely loved the result.

Used this way, Ingenua adds a beautiful halo and softness without overwhelming the project. It feels luxurious but still wearable, and I can see this combination working beautifully for pullovers, cardigans, scarves, and cowls.

On its own, Ingenua will create a lightweight,  see-through fabric, which is something to keep in mind when planning garments.

Care & Recommendations

  • Hand wash or delicate cycle at 30ºC

  • Lay flat to dry

  • Do not tumble dry

According to the Katia website, a basic long-sleeve pullover (Size 42) requires approximately 5 balls, though yardage will vary depending on gauge and whether it’s held double.

Cotton-Merino Fine by Katia

A lightweight, everyday yarn with organic cotton

Shop Cotton-Merino Fine HERE! (colors numbers unavailable on packing slip, sorry!)

Cotton-Merino Fine is a fine-weight yarn with a unique construction: an organic cotton chain core wrapped with soft Merino wool. The result is a yarn that feels light, breathable, and incredibly versatile.

Fiber Highlights

  • Organic cotton core (GOTS certified)

  • Merino wool outer fiber

Because it’s machine washable and gentle, Katia recommends this yarn for baby garments, but it’s just as suitable for lightweight adult wear. I loved the drape it created, so I'm leaning towards a shawl!

Yarn Details

  • Weight: 25g

  • Length: 75 meters

  • Crochet Hook: 3.5–4mm (US E–G)

  • Knitting Needles: 3–3.5mm (US 4–5)

My Experience With Cotton-Merino Fine

This yarn feels polished and refined, making it ideal for:

  • Baby garments

  • Lightweight sweaters

  • Transitional-season pieces

  • Everyday wearables

It crochets up smoothly and creates a fabric that feels comfortable directly against the skin.

Care & Recommendations

  • Machine wash up to 30ºC on a wool cycle

  • Lay flat to dry

  • Do not tumble dry

How I Modified A Hexagon Cardi for Mid & Plus Size

Hexagon Cardigan Modifications Hey yarn lovers! Since I wanted to ensure I would love wearing it, I made a few tweaks to improve the fit and feel. Key Modifications for a Better Fit 1. Adjusting the Shoulder Fit Instead of making the panels overly large, I measured my sho...
