A lot has changed since I first made that list:
-
I’ve explored new shops (Huge inspo HERE)
-
My yarn taste has changed (Read more HERE)
-
And… Joann officially closed it's doors for good (Shop HERE instead)
So today, I’m sharing my current top five favorite places to buy yarn online as of December 2025 going into 2026. If you love yarn variety, great prices, rich color palettes, and discovering new fibers, this list is for you.
1. Wool Warehouse: (UK) My #1 Forever Favorite
If you’ve been around my channel for a while, this one won’t surprise you!
Wool Warehouse is hands-down my favorite place to buy yarn online for several reasons:
Their house brand Yarnsmiths is fantastic
Affordable, soft, and available in so many colors - especially the warm browns, rusts, chocolates, burnt oranges, and earthy tones I love.
Huge color ranges
Most Yarnsmiths lines offer 30–40 colors, sometimes more. Whether you want acrylic, wool, cotton, or superwash, you’ll find options.
Tools for consistency
You can select a specific dye lot at checkout, incredibly helpful when matching previous purchases.
International shipping is back
They briefly paused U.S. shipping due to tariff issues, but they’re back! At checkout you’ll see a tariff estimator, so you know exactly what to expect. No surprise customs emails (and if you get one, it’s a scam).
Transparent U.S. pricing
Switch to the U.S. currency view in your account to see approximate conversions.
Honestly, getting yarn from the UK for around $7 shipping (plus tariffs calculated upfront) still feels like a steal.

2. KnitPicks / WeCrochet (U.S.)
These two are sister companies, with identical yarn offerings:
-
KnitPicks = knit-focused tools & patterns
-
WeCrochet = crochet-focused tools & patterns
But the yarn? Same across both.
Why I love them:
-
Extremely consistent quality
-
Great color stories
-
Affordable yarns in both natural and synthetic fibers
-
Easy-to-use website
-
Excellent sale cycles
If you like to stock up, their 2/4/6 Sale (twice a year) is incredible. One of my personal favorite yarns from them is Chroma, a wool/acrylic blend that comes in both worsted and fingering weight. It works up beautifully every single time.
Free shipping is typically around $70 now, aligned across both sites. Check out THIS POST for more details.
3. Herrschners: (U.S.) Best for Budget Yarn
Herrschners is my go-to for value yarns.
What they do best:
-
A wide selection of house-brand yarns
-
Affordable acrylics in lots of colors
-
Great for large projects on a budget
-
Surprisingly soft and durable options
Their Herrschners Afghan Yarn is a standout for me. It's a soft, light #2 weight that works perfectly for patterns calling for fingering weight yarn. And it’s only around $2 a ball!
Things to know:
-
Shipping can be pricey unless there’s a promotion
-
They send… a lot of emails
-
But! They frequently offer deals like their recent 11¢ shipping with a $35 order promotion
When the shipping promo is good, it’s worth stocking up.
4. Premier Yarns: (U.S.) Especially Their Bag Deals
I am hilariously late to the Premier party, but I’ve placed two orders now and I’m officially "hooked".
Why Premier made my list:
-
Their Bag Deals section is unreal
-
High-quality yarns along with budget favorites
-
Great way to try new fibers
-
Especially good for nicer yarns at value pricing
I picked up multiple bags of Himalaya yarn for about $4 per bag of three... wild! While those exact ones are gone now, they frequently have rotating options in the bags section, including wool blends.
Shipping can deter some buyers, but the savings on bag deals often make up for it. To watch a video that was previously only available to channel members, CLICK HERE and watch my Premier Yarns haul!
5. LindeHobby (Denmark)
A newer favorite for me, and such a gem.
What I love about LindeHobby:
-
U.S. pricing shown directly on the site
-
Tariffs calculated upfront
-
Smooth international checkout
-
High-quality house-brand yarns
-
Low prices compared to Hobbi
-
They’re a full Drops superstore
Their Drops selection is actually larger than Wool Warehouse’s, perfect if you’re a Drops lover (like me!). I’ve also purchased novelty yarns like Go Handmade, which are significantly cheaper here than at Hobbi.
LindeHobby checks all the boxes: price, quality, selection, and transparency.
Honorable Mentions
Mercari, which isn't a yarn store but hand dyers and spinners have been fleeing Etsy and setting up shop there instead. Two of my favorite spinners have all ready made the switch: Katies Been Yarnified and Sweet Pea Cyd.
Hobbi didn’t make the top five this year. I like them, I truly do, but when comparing price, shipping, and product availability, the other shops simply stood out more for me personally.
9 times out of 10, I'd tell you the yarn on Amazon is overpriced, but Yarn Art and Alize can be found very reasonably and with free shipping.
Final Thoughts
As a fiber artist, where we shop matters. We all want:
-
good yarn
-
good prices
-
good shipping
-
and a smooth experience
These five retailers consistently deliver all (or most) of those things for me in 2025 and heading into 2026.
