Back to What Feels Right

There’s something really special about returning to something that just feels right. For me, that’s this: sharing updates, reflections, and creative energy directly with you, without any paywalls or platforms in between.

If you’ve been with me for a while, you might remember when my email newsletter felt like our own little cozy corner of the internet. I loved that sense of connection, and after trying a few different formats, I realized that’s what I missed most. So, I’ve brought it back: simple, personal, and full of heart. Because of this, I've also disbanded my YouTube memberships, so everyone who wants to can access exclusive content. CLICK HERE to watch the Goodbye Video I made for channel members.

A Fresh Start for the Newsletter

For a while, I wasn’t sure where my newsletter was headed. I tested out different styles and themes, but nothing really clicked. This new (or should I say old familiar) format feels like home again. It's an easy way to chat, share updates, and connect about yarn, creativity, and life.

If you haven’t already, you can sample the November issue and sign up for future emails RIGHT HERE

This month’s email includes a few life updates, including our first real snowfall here in Iowa (brrr!), thoughts on the upcoming holiday season, and a peek at how recovery has been going since my surgery. I’m feeling so much better and so grateful for all the kind words and support you’ve sent my way. If you're not sure what I'm talking about, read THIS POST.

Something New: My Podcast Is Live!

This email also contains a fun announcement: My brand-new podcast, Behind the Skeins with Shannon, is officially live!

It’s a place for fellow creators (and anyone curious about the behind-the-scenes of content creation) to hear honest conversations about YouTube, creativity, and the realities of balancing it all. Whether you’re just starting out, thinking about launching a channel, or simply love peeking behind the curtain, this podcast is for you.

There are already five episodes up, and next week’s episode features a special guest: my husband! Let’s just say convincing him to join me was an adventure, but it turned out to be such a fun conversation.

You can listen to Behind the Skeins with Shannon on Spotify, no paid account required!

Watch the Video

I also shared all of this in my latest video, where I talk through why I made these changes and what’s next. Read about it in THIS POST or WATCH IT HERE.

Thank You

This year has been one of change, growth, and rediscovering what matters most to me in my creative work: connection, community, and authenticity.

Thank you for being here, for reading, watching, and sharing this journey with me. I’m so excited for what’s ahead, and I can’t wait to keep building this space together!

How I Modified A Hexagon Cardi for Mid & Plus Size

Hexagon Cardigan Modifications Hey yarn lovers! If you're a midsize or plus-size crocheter looking for ways to customize your hexagon cardigan for a more flattering and comfortable fit, I’ve got some great tips for you. I recently finished my second hexagon cardi and made a few modifications that helped me feel more confident wearing it. Here’s what I learned! The Inspiration Behind My Second Hexagon Cardi A while back, I made a basic hexagon cardigan using Red Heart Super Saver yarn. While I loved the pattern and even won a blue ribbon at my county fair, I wasn’t sure I would actually wear it. It felt a bit too boxy and oversized for my liking. This time, I decided to use Herrschners Witches Brew yarn for a fun Halloween-inspired version. Get the yarn HERE . Since I wanted to ensure I would love wearing it, I made a few tweaks to improve the fit and feel. Key Modifications for a Better Fit 1. Adjusting the Shoulder Fit Instead of making the panels overly large, I measured my sho...

New to Hobby Lobby? Here’s What You Need to Know About Shopping for Yarn

If you're new to shopping for yarn at Hobby Lobby, let me help you avoid some rookie mistakes. I’ve learned a lot over the years, and today I’m breaking it all down so you can shop like a seasoned pro, especially when those big clearance sales roll around! Start with the Weekly Sale Schedule First things first: Hobby Lobby runs on a weekly rotating sale schedule . That means every week, different departments go on sale. The yarn section, is it's own department. When it’s that department’s turn, all the yarn will be 30% off. Here’s the catch: that sale only lasts a week, and the schedule rotates every other week. So if you’re walking into the store when yarn isn’t on sale, it has switched to a fabric sale week. I advise checking online before shopping and planning accordingly.  Hobby Lobby’s Yarn Brands Hobby Lobby carries a few big-name brands, like Lion Brand, but the real stars of the show are their private label yarns. These are exclusive to Hobby Lobby and in...
