Fresh Start for November: Community Updates, Yarny News, and Feeling Good Again

It’s November, and for once, I’m sitting down just to chat and share what’s been going on behind the scenes. I don’t usually do “update” type videos, but there’s a lot of change happening right now and it all feels worth talking about.

Saying Goodbye to Memberships (and Hello Again to Something Familiar)

After a lot of thought, I decided to officially disband my YouTube memberships. It was a tough decision, but also one that brought a surprising sense of peace. Times are hard right now, and I don’t want there to be a paywall between us anymore.

Before I started memberships, I actually had my own free version, a simple email list where I shared exclusive videos, updates, and chats. And you know what? That space felt special. Cozy. Personal. I missed that.

So, I’m going back to it! You can sign up for my free email HERE! I’ll be sharing videos that won’t appear on my main channel, just like before. Sometimes there might be one a month, sometimes two, it’ll depend on what’s happening and what I feel inspired to create. Read more about my free email HERE.

Yarny News: Wool Warehouse is Back!

If you saw my recent video about Hobbie and LindeHobby, you might remember me mentioning how sad I was that I couldn’t order from Wool Warehouse anymore. Well… great news! They’re shipping to the U.S. again!

Apparently, when you check out, you’ll even see an estimated tariff fee right in your cart. I haven’t placed an order just yet (my yarn shelves are still pretty full!), but you know I’ve been browsing. I’m especially excited about their exclusive Yarnsmiths line, it’s one of my favorite affordable collections. This blog post features Cotton yarn from Yarnsmiths and the project I made with it!

Upcoming Crochet Projects

A while back, I showed my members a little corner-to-corner bandana scarf I’d made, and they immediately asked for a tutorial. So, that’s coming soon, exclusively for the email community! I’m also working on a corner-to-corner infinity scarf tutorial that will be joining it. I can’t wait to share those patterns with you all.

Health & Life Update

Seven weeks ago, I had a hysterectomy to take care of some fibroids, polyps, and a cyst. Recovery took time, and for a while, I was just tired all the time. But now? I’m feeling so good! My six-week checkup went well, and I’ve got another in a few months, but everything looks great so far.

Honestly, I feel more energized than I have in a long time. I’m excited to get back into a creative rhythm and enjoy connecting with you again. Here's my first blog post after the surgery if you'd like to know more.

A Quick Livestream Update

Cyd and I are switching things up this month! Instead of our usual third Saturday livestream, we’re going live on Tuesday November 11th, at 9 a.m. Central (10 a.m. Eastern). Saturdays have been so busy for everyone lately, so we’re giving this new schedule a try.

Check out THIS BLOG POST for a sneak peek of our topic! You can read Cydney's blog post HERE.

Wrapping Up

So that’s the scoop for November: a mix of change, excitement, and renewed energy. I’m so grateful for everyone who’s been part of this community through all its evolutions.

If you’d like to keep up with the cozy, behind-the-scenes side of Shannon Talks Yarn, make sure you’re on the free email list. That’s where the good stuff is headed next.

How I Modified A Hexagon Cardi for Mid & Plus Size

Hexagon Cardigan Modifications Hey yarn lovers! If you're a midsize or plus-size crocheter looking for ways to customize your hexagon cardigan for a more flattering and comfortable fit, I’ve got some great tips for you. I recently finished my second hexagon cardi and made a few modifications that helped me feel more confident wearing it. Here’s what I learned! The Inspiration Behind My Second Hexagon Cardi A while back, I made a basic hexagon cardigan using Red Heart Super Saver yarn. While I loved the pattern and even won a blue ribbon at my county fair, I wasn’t sure I would actually wear it. It felt a bit too boxy and oversized for my liking. This time, I decided to use Herrschners Witches Brew yarn for a fun Halloween-inspired version. Get the yarn HERE . Since I wanted to ensure I would love wearing it, I made a few tweaks to improve the fit and feel. Key Modifications for a Better Fit 1. Adjusting the Shoulder Fit Instead of making the panels overly large, I measured my sho...

New to Hobby Lobby? Here’s What You Need to Know About Shopping for Yarn

If you're new to shopping for yarn at Hobby Lobby, let me help you avoid some rookie mistakes. I’ve learned a lot over the years, and today I’m breaking it all down so you can shop like a seasoned pro, especially when those big clearance sales roll around! Start with the Weekly Sale Schedule First things first: Hobby Lobby runs on a weekly rotating sale schedule . That means every week, different departments go on sale. The yarn section, is it's own department. When it’s that department’s turn, all the yarn will be 30% off. Here’s the catch: that sale only lasts a week, and the schedule rotates every other week. So if you’re walking into the store when yarn isn’t on sale, it has switched to a fabric sale week. I advise checking online before shopping and planning accordingly.  Hobby Lobby’s Yarn Brands Hobby Lobby carries a few big-name brands, like Lion Brand, but the real stars of the show are their private label yarns. These are exclusive to Hobby Lobby and in...
