If you’ve been scrolling through yarn groups lately, you’ve probably seen the rumors: “You can’t order from Denmark anymore!” or “Wool Warehouse isn’t shipping to the U.S.!”
As someone who loves ordering yarn from overseas, I wanted to find out for myself what’s true and what’s just Facebook panic.
It turns out you can continue to order from Denmark but as of right now, Wool Warehouse has suspended US shipping and I'm totally bummed about that!!!
A Quick Update (and a Little Real Life)
I actually meant to film this video before my surgery, but life had other plans. Recovery went fine, but I had to let go of a lot of expectations I’d set for myself, including some filming goals. So if this topic isn’t brand new, I still wanted to share it in case it clears up some confusion. You can read THIS BLOG POST to catch up on all my surgery updates.
What’s Really Going On with Tariffs
The biggest change right now is that some international yarn orders now include a tariff fee. It’s usually around 15% of the merchandise value-not the sale price. So if you snag a yarn on sale for $10 that normally costs $20, the tariff will still be calculated from the $20 value.
Both Hobbii and LindeHobby, which are based in Denmark, now handle these fees upfront. You’ll see the tariff cost added to your total at checkout. That means your order clears customs smoothly, and you won’t get any surprise texts or scammy emails asking for more money later.
What I Paid (and How It Went)
For my recent LindeHobby order, I paid around $9 in tariff fees, plus about $6 for shipping and a few dollars in tax. My package took a little longer than usual (about a week more) but everything arrived perfectly.
Shipping prices were actually better than some U.S.-based shops I’ve ordered from. Herrschners, for example, often charges more even though they’re just one state away!
What I Ordered
Here are a few highlights from my haul:
-
LindeHobby Flora Soft Cake – 50% cotton, 50% acrylic, with a gorgeous turquoise-to-cream gradient. Perfect for a shawl!
-
Cotton 8/4 in Brown – Fine cotton that’s soft enough for apparel.
-
Drops “Love You” Cotton and Fable Sock Yarn – Great prices, especially if you watch the monthly sales.
-
A mystery wool that can be used for spinning or felting — still figuring that one out! I'm going to have to consult by Yarny BFF Cydney on this one!
My Advice
If you’re ordering from overseas:
- Shop what’s on sale.
- Make sure you order enough for your whole project.
- Don’t stress about the tariff, it’s built in and handled.
- Ignore any suspicious customs messages.
You can absolutely still order from Hobbii and LindeHobby. Both are wonderful yarn sources, even with the extra fee. If these yarn suppliers are new to you, check out THIS BLOG POST where I compare the two companies!
Thanks for hanging out and talking yarn with me today, and for your patience as I’ve been healing and catching up. I’ll be back soon with more crochet chats and project updates!
