Catching Up After My Hysterectomy | Life + Crochet Update

Hello yarny friends! It feels so good to be back after my longest break from YouTube so far. If you missed it, I’ve spent the last few weeks recovering from a hysterectomy and while it’s been quite an experience, I’m so thankful to be on the mend and sitting down to catch up with you today. Three Weeks Post-Surgery By the time you’re reading this, it’s been exactly three weeks since my surgery. Everything went well, with no complications, and my first post-op checkup looked great. I still have another follow-up scheduled at the six-week mark, but overall, I’m feeling relieved and grateful. For months leading up to the surgery, I had been dealing with fibroids and recurring polyps that were just causing too much discomfort. At 49, it felt like the right time to move on from all of that and focus on feeling better. The difference now is incredible. I no longer feel like I’m carrying a giant, hard grapefruit inside me (which is exactly how it felt before). There’s still some li...

Crochet & Chat: Finding Calm in Crochet Before Surgery

Crochet has always been more than just a hobby for me, it’s my safe space, my creative outlet, and, honestly, my therapy. Lately, I’ve been leaning on it more than ever as I prepare for an upcoming surgery. Crochet as a Distraction (in the Best Way) When my mind starts spinning with worries, I’ve found that sitting down with yarn and hook gives me something soothing to focus on. Every stitch feels like a tiny reminder that I can slow down and breathe. It’s not about rushing to finish a project right now it’s about giving myself permission to just be in the moment. How Surgery Prep Affects My Channel Of course, the reality is that surgery prep has also been affecting my content. I haven’t had quite the same energy to film as many videos as I’d like, and projects are moving more slowly than usual. That’s why I thought a crochet & chat would be the perfect way to stay connected with you all, while also keeping things honest and real. Why I Wanted to Share This I know many...

Stock Up Before the Fall Rush: Smart Yarn Shopping for Labor Day Sales

Labor Day weekend isn’t just the unofficial end of summer, it’s also one of the best times to snag great yarn deals. Many craft stores and online shops use this weekend to clear out summer stock and make room for fall and winter yarns. That makes it the perfect time for fiber artists to stock up smartly before the busy season begins. Why Shop Now? Seasonal Clearance : Summer-weight yarns like cotton and bamboo often go on deep discount. Fall Preview : Stores begin rolling out cozy yarns. Think wools, alpacas, and bulky blends for fall and winter projects. Budget-Friendly Stocking Up : Labor Day sales can rival Black Friday deals for crafters, so it’s a great time to stretch your yarn budget. What to Look For Neutral Basics – Stock up on staple colors you’ll use for garments, gifts, and home décor. Seasonal Shades – Think autumn-inspired tones: rust, mustard, forest green, cranberry. Perfect for scarves, hats, and cozy blankets. Specialty Fibers – If you’ve ...

Summer Yarn Stash Check-In: What to Keep, What to Use, and What to Donate Before Fall

Labor Day is often seen as the end of summer, and for yarn lovers, it’s also the perfect time to check in on your stash before the busy fall season begins. Cooler weather usually means bigger projects, cozier fibers, and longer stretches of crochet time, so why not give your yarn collection a little refresh before diving in? Step 1: Sort Through Your Summer-Friendly Yarns Cotton, linen, bamboo, and lightweight blends are perfect for warm weather projects, but as the seasons shift, you may not reach for them as often. Take a look at your stash and set these yarns aside. Then ask yourself: Do I want to use them now? Should I store them for next year? Could I donate or gift them to someone who will use them sooner? Step 2: Revisit Your WIPs (Works in Progress) Do you have a summer top that’s still only half done? Or a bag project that got left in a project basket? Decide whether it’s worth finishing now or whether it’s time to frog and reclaim the yarn for something ...

Quick Ways to Tidy Your Yarn Room Over Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day weekend is often thought of as the unofficial end of summer. It's a time for barbecues, sales, and maybe a little relaxation. But if you’re like me, it’s also the perfect opportunity to reclaim your yarn space before fall projects kick into high gear. You don’t need a full makeover to feel more organized! (click HERE if you're interested in my latest yarn room makeover!) Even a few hours of tidying can make your yarn room (or yarn corner!) feel fresh, inviting, and ready for your next WIP. Here are some quick and doable ways to organize your yarn room this holiday weekend: 1. Do a 10-Minute Surface Sweep Clear off any flat surfaces: desks, tables, or cube tops that have become landing zones for skeins, hooks, or half-finished projects. Even stacking things into a basket temporarily will make the space feel calmer and give you room to breathe. 2. Gather Your WIPs in One Spot If your yarn room is anything like mine, projects in progress can end up scattered eve...

Feeling Stuck? You Might Have Decision Fatigue

Have you ever stood in front of your yarn stash for half an hour, only to walk away without starting anything? Or maybe you’ve got six tabs of patterns open but none of them feel right? If so, you might be dealing with decision fatigue . Decision fatigue happens when the sheer number of choices in front of us wears down our ability to actually make a decision. For knitters, crocheters, and fiber artists, this shows up in some very familiar ways: Stash freeze – staring at yarn but not using it. Pattern overload – downloading every free pattern but never starting. WIP avoidance – avoiding projects so you don’t have to decide what to do with them. Planning more than making – endless prep with no progress. The good news? It doesn’t mean you’re unmotivated or bad at your craft. It simply means your brain is tired from making decisions all day long. Here are a few ways to lighten the load: Limit your menu. Pick 3–5 yarns and patterns you know you love and keep those...
